A man from Wichita convicted of stealing a wedding ring off a dying lady’s hand is now looking at twenty years of time in prison. On Monday, a Sedgwick County judge came with the sentence that Daquantrius Johnson has to spend 247 months in jail that is just more than twenty years. The total time he would work is really 3 combined sentences from many felony crimes in the last few decades.
Monday’s sentencing centered on the case against Daquantrius involving the theft of a wedding band from Danielle Zimmerman last year. Danielle had been in a fast food drive-through shop when she endured a brain aneurysm. It was in that time, Johnson as well as 2 other person found Danielle and proceeded to steal her band and many other items. Zimmerman passed away the very next day.
Kris Zimmerman, Danielle husband, was there for the sentencing earlier on Monday. He told that he was very relieved regarding the whole outcome. Kris Zimmerman said that he is glad regarding the outcome from the judge because he was offered probation as well as committed all these crimes while on probation so he obviously did not learn his lesson.
Johnson’s crime against Danielle took place when he was on probation for an earlier crime. It was one of his three crimes committed during the same probation period. Marc Bennett, Sedgwick County District Attorney, told that this is when the judge pointed out that his probation. That is when the judge pointed out that his probation, in the judge’s words, was a failure.
